PLANTAR FASCIITIS
Are you experiencing symptoms of plantar fasciitis in Shanghai, China? Plantar fasciitis occurs when the band of tissue connecting the heel bone to the toes, known as the plantar fascia, becomes inflamed, resulting in considerable pain. This condition is commonly observed among runners, overweight individuals, pregnant women, and those who wear ill-fitting shoes lacking proper support. Other potential causes or contributing factors include prolonged standing, vitamin C deficiency, and sudden increases in physical activity.
Plantar fasciitis is more likely to develop between the ages of 40 and 70. Individuals with this condition often experience stabbing pain in the heel, particularly in the morning with the first few steps. The pain may improve with continued walking, and it is unusual to experience plantar fasciitis in both feet simultaneously. If left untreated, it may lead to the formation of a heel spur.
To accurately diagnose plantar fasciitis, a comprehensive examination is necessary. This includes testing reflexes, assessing muscle strength, tone, coordination, and balance of the foot. A structural evaluation of the knees, hips, and pelvis is also performed to identify any issues related to weight distribution or abnormal walking patterns that may have contributed to the development of plantar fasciitis. In some cases, an X-ray may be taken to rule out other possible causes such as heel spurs, fractures, or misalignments.
THE TREATMENT OF PLANTAR FASCIITIS
The treatment of plantar fasciitis often involves soft tissue work to restore full range of motion in the ankle and foot joints while minimizing stress on the plantar fascia. Additionally, addressing the flexibility of the calf muscles is common.
If you are suffering from plantar fasciitis, we encourage you to contact us for assistance. In the meantime, we recommend stretching the plantar fascia at home to alleviate pain and promote healing. Regular ice massages over the affected area can also be helpful in reducing pain without the use of medication. It is recommended to perform these massages three to four times a day, for no longer than 20 minutes each session. Be cautious not to freeze the skin tissue, and discontinue if it feels excessively cold.
To prevent the development of plantar fasciitis, it is advisable to invest in proper orthotics for arch support and maintain a healthy weight.
